I had a quick and exciting business start. September was extremely busy and the outlook for October looks just as busy.
During these busy weeks, I had two days of team building with my leadership team. During these extremely busy weeks I enjoyed team building exercise with my leadership team. The experience was well worth it. It confirmed again how critical it is not only to have the best people, but also to have them work together in harmony around common goals and values which at McAfee are about our customers, partners and employees. We make a point of honor in helping our customers to keep their businesses and organizations safe with innovative best-in-class products and services. I am personally committed to our partners and plan to extend and empower our network. Our new partner program is built to enable our channels to increase their revenue and make business with McAfee easier than it has ever been. And eventually with our people at McAfee, our objective is to hire the best people and ensure them a fulfilling development path.
I also had the pleasure to attend and open the Focus Security Conference of McAfee in Schloss Bensberg next to Köln in Germany. The venue was absolutely superb. A castle built in 1705 which served as hunting lodge, and hospital before being transformed into a five star hotel.
After Hans Peter Bauer, VP Central and Eastern Europe welcomed our guests, I was delighted to surprise our audience by introducing our co-president Michael DeCesare who honored us by attending the conference. I presented McAfee’ s vision and strategy. This was also an opportunity to talk about the major news, the McAfee DeepSAFE; a breakthrough joint technology by McAfee and Intel, which was announced by Paul Otelinni, CEO of Intel, the day before at the Intel Development Conference (IDF). DeepSAFE is a game changing technology; it combines the best of both worlds, the power of hardware and the flexibility of software. Since the announcement, I got a lot of interest and positive feedback from our customers and partners.
I can tell you that being on stage was energizing. But what to me was even more energizing were the 200 customers and partners who came from all over Germany, Austria and Switzerland .I was truly impressed with the quality of our audience, with our speakers and the content of their presentations.
Intel gave us a great view of its vision delivered by Pr. Dr. Hermann Eul, President and Managing Director of Intel Mobile Communications in Germany. How security is critical to Defense was described in detail by Dr Klauss Reinhardt, ex General of the German Army. Our CTO Michael Fey gave a comprehensive overview of the new threats, risks and trends including a focus on DeepSAFE. Marc Olesen, WW SVP & GM of Content & Cloud Security explained what security meant in an IT Cloud environment. Consumerization of IT was addressed by Chris Kenworthy, SVP Entperise & Mobile, followed by Rishi Bhargava Senior Director Product Management Risk & Compliance, who gave an introduction to risk management. Dan Sarel, Vice President of Database Security Products introduced and familiarized the audience with the concept of Database security. And eventually, Mr Oliver Stuck of GAD eG, one of our key customers, was nice enough to share his McAfee experience. The whole conference was moderated by the chief editor of CIO Magazine.
I am really proud of the work done by our team, and some enthusiastic customer quotes testify the success of the event:
“This sensational location and the great presentations are worth to attend your FOCUC-event. In add the opportunity to easily approach your execs and product management people from McAfee was great.”
“The agenda and the presentations were so interesting that it worth to postpone my vacation for a day and visit your FOCUS event.”
“We drove all the way from Amsterdam to Bergisch Gladbach to attend the meeting but it was absolutely worth the journey. Good content in the sessions and very well presented, with realtime translations for the non-German-spoken. An excellent chance to meet with senior management and colleague partners as well.”
This was music to my ears. What is critical to me is to place our customers and partners at the very center of our business lives.
I also had an interesting conversation with a journalist from Focus Magazine. We exchanged about security in general and the need to regulate the cyberspace in particular. If you open a bank account, everything is verified, if I start a website I don’t need anything. Freedom is great but it needs to be regulated.
Due to the conference and the interest it drove, we were pleased to register some follow up meetings at our Executive Briefing Center in Amsterdam.
I leave it here for now. I have some interesting customer visits in the next weeks. Stay tuned.
