That’s a Wrap! – VMworld 2014

This past week, technology professionals and executives came together at the Moscone Center in San Francisco for VMworld 2014. Over the course of the five-day event we sat in on some great sessions, led a few demos, hosted onsite games and challenges, and made two exciting new product announcements.

It was a busy week with a lot happening, so we’ve put together some highlights from the event that you wouldn’t want to miss!

Let the Games Begin: Intel Security Booth

VMworld 2014 Day 4 (22 of 259)

VMworld 2014 Day 4 (26 of 259)

It wasn’t all fun and games at the Intel Security booth this year, but close to it. Amid the buzz of professionals talking technology, people were competing against each other in exciting challenges, playing interactive games, and participating in educational demos. One of our favorite events talking place at the Intel Security booth was the “Ultimate Data Center Challenge” where four players competed against each other at one time to see who could correctly answer a number of multiple-choice questions first. Questions were selected randomly from a pool of nearly 100 — truly testing a participant’s knowledge of Intel Security technologies.

To the Cloud and Beyond: Breakout Sessions

While some were preparing for back-to-school – we were already “back in class” talking about the latest in technology thanks to a variety of informative sessions. We sponsored three sessions throughout the event, covering the following topics:

  • “Implementing Comprehensive, Distributed Security for the NSX Software-Defined Data Center”: During this session, we defined the key security challenges and requirements for safely managing the software-defined data center. However, we didn’t stop there…we also presented workable solutions for orchestrating security functions and policies.
  • “Deploying Secure Hybrid Cloud: Key Learnings and Solutions”: Here experts demonstrated some emerging mechanisms that utilize both infrastructure and data protection capabilities. The information was presented with the goal of empowering cloud users to better meet their security needs.
  • “Unleashing the power of VMware’s Virtual SAN on the latest industry standard high performance NVMe/PCIe SSDs ”: This session explored all of the different software defined storage configurations that can be utilized to optimize the performance and latency capabilities on VMware’s Virtual SAN

Announcements, Announcements: New From Intel Security!

VMworld 2014 Day 4 (23 of 259)

On top of all the buzz and brouhaha happening at VMworld, we had two very exciting product releases announced — The Intel Security Controller and the updated McAfee Server Security Suites. Each promises to incite positive change in the ever-evolving security arena.

The Intel Security Controller enables software-defined security by providing an abstraction layer between the security infrastructure and virtualization management in the data center. It works with existing management applications to assist IT teams and service providers in maximizing their security infrastructure investments. Learn more about the Intel Security Controller here.

McAfee Server Security Suites now has even more to offer with the latest advancements we announced during VMworld. The new Server Security Suites provide performance optimization and additional management efficiency, allowing you to achieve greater visibility and expand server instances into the public cloud, securely. Read about the two new Server Security Suites – Essentials and Advanced, here.

That’s a Wrap!
