Automated, streamlined, efficient, flexible and centralized. Five words that make an incredible impact when it comes to your security management software.
As we continue to navigate today’s threat landscape, organizations are looking to simplify their existing security portfolios and invest in next-generation technologies that embody all of the above. In the case of McAfee, our McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) product covers these bases.
Unifying security management through a single open platform, McAfee ePO enables organizations of all sizes to streamline workflows, increase visibility and strengthen protection.
As support for ePO 4.6 will cease at the end of 2015, we’re excited to roll out the new and improved McAfee ePO 5.3. Still running an earlier platform? Now would be a great time to start planning your ePO upgrade!
Looking for some additional convincing to make the switch? Here are our top 10 reasons to upgrade to McAfee ePO version 5.3 today.
- Enhanced Disaster Recovery
The success of your entire ePO environment stems from the server. With ePO 5.3, you’ll have the ability to backup and restore your settings, preferences, and files quickly and easily. There’s no longer a need to rebuild the fine-tuned pieces that make ePO the best security management system available.
Should the ePO server crash, simply retrieve your settings from a snapshot repository and you’ll be able to instantly recover all of your files and settings. In addition to disaster recovery, you can use snapshots to:
- Rollback if your ePO upgrade does not go as intended.
- Upgrade your ePO server hardware
- Move your ePO server to new hardware with a new name and new IP address
- Improved Performance
With native 64-bit support, ePO 5.3 comes with an increased amount of server memory, allowing it to support more sessions and improve performance in large-scale environments. Additionally, multiple administrators can use the ePO console simultaneously, resulting in faster reporting capabilities and greater access to the console overall.
- Integration with Advanced Threat Protection Technology
Malware instances for which detection signatures do not exist, otherwise known as zero-day malware, have become a growing concern in the cybersecurity industry. To respond to this shift in the threat landscape, McAfee unveiled McAfee Threat Intelligence Exchange (TIE), which constitutes a significant improvement in the fight against unknown threats. TIE not only offers additional zero day malware protection for your endpoints, it also allows for threat information to be shared instantaneously across your other security products. And, to streamline management, alerting, and reporting, TIE works off of ePO 5.1.1 and above as its central management console. Talk about making your products sing in perfect harmony!
- Ability to Compare Policies and Tasks
If you’ve created a high volume of policies and tasks, or if multiple people create them on your team, you might end up looking at two policies and asking yourself: “what’s the difference?” Luckily, ePO 5.3 allows you to compare two policies or tasks side by side, giving you insight as to what they have in common or what’s different between the two, making task management fast and easy.
- Extended Browser Support
ePO 5.3 fully supports HTML5 browsers, including:
- Internet Explorer 8 and later
- Mozilla Firefox 10 and later
- Google Chrome 17 and later
- Safari 6 and later (OS X only)
- Improved Detection of Rogue Systems
Unprotected systems, known as ‘rogue,’ are often the weak spot(s) of any security strategy, creating entry points that viruses and other potentially harmful programs can use to access your network. McAfee Rogue System Detection comes with the latest version of ePO and provides near real-time discovery of rogue systems, even ones that are on different subnets. When a sensor detects a system on the network, it sends a message to ePO, which in turn alerts administrators to automatically deploy a McAfee Agent to the system.
- Saved Policy and Task Information
ePO 5.3 allows you to keep any associated policies and tasks when you delete an extension. So, if you decide to reinstall said extension later, you don’t have to worry about recreating the policies and tasks associated with that product.
- Simplified Product Deployment
Want a simplified product deployment process? With ePO 5.3, you’ve got it! Now, you only have to go through two screens to configure deployments, as opposed to the seven you’re used to with ePO 4. In addition, ePO 5.3 features a new product deployment dashboard, from which you can monitor your product deployment progress and success.
Additionally, ePO 5.3 gives you the ability to create an agent deployment URL. You can then share the URL via email or the Internal IT web site, and it will automatically download the McAfee Agent installer on any systems where you need to deploy the agent.
- Upgrade Compatibility Utility
ePO 5.3 features an Upgrade Compatibility Utility to help you migrate your server configuration from a previous ePO platform to your new environment. The Upgrade Compatibility Utility also checks for compatible extensions before upgrading an existing installation of ePO to 5.3. Voila!
- All You Need in One Single Pane
The ePO menu page now displays all options in one single page so you don’t have to drill into sub menus to find the link you are looking for.
